CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

LaGuardia Community College, situated in Long Island City, Queens, serves over 20,000 students each year through various degree, certificate, and continuing education programs. As a Hispanic-Serving Institution, it offers more than 50 degrees and certificates along with over 65 continuing education programs aimed at equipping New Yorkers with new skills and career opportunities. The college embodies the legacy of Fiorello H. LaGuardia, a former NYC mayor known for advocating for underserved communities. Since 1971, LaGuardia has been dedicated to enhancing the socioeconomic mobility of its students by providing access to quality, affordable education.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and enhance a variety of AWS services to provide cost-effective and scalable solutions.
  • Assist in formulating a comprehensive disaster recovery strategy, including automated backups and failover mechanisms.
  • Write and review code for web applications, primarily using HTML, XML, or JavaScript.
  • Develop and optimize secure web pages to meet evolving business requirements and integrate multimedia content.
  • Provide ongoing support for one or more web properties.
  • Maintain, expand, and scale the college's web presence.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding website direction and collaborate with web designers to ensure visual design integrity.
  • Code and script applications as needed.
  • Conduct routine site audits and perform maintenance as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent.
  2. A minimum of ten years of experience in a computer or technology-related role, which can be satisfied by one of the following: ten years of full-time experience; an Associate's degree plus eight years of full-time experience; or a Bachelor's degree plus six years of full-time experience.
  3. Demonstrated proficiency in the English language.
  4. A valid Motor Vehicle Driver's license in New York State may be required for certain positions.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Essential skills include proficiency with a comprehensive range of web development tools, specifically:

  • .NET, C#, PHP, JAVA, HTML, CSS, WordPress CMS.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft interfaces, particularly CUNYFirst ERP.
  • API development experience.
  • Knowledge of e-Commerce practices and SEO.
  • Familiarity with SSL and PCI-Compliance coding.
  • Experience in converting standard web pages to responsive designs across various platforms and browsers.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with JAVAScript, Django, SQL (JQuery, MS-SQL, MySQL).
  • Experience with PLONE CMS.
  • Knowledge of VoIP integration.
  • Familiarity with CUNY-specific applications and services, including BlackBoard LMS, BrightSpace LMS, DegreeWorks, and others.
  • Understanding of search engine optimization (SEO) practices.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Proficient problem-solving and high-level programming skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and enhance web pages for security and responsiveness.
  • Understanding of network diagnostics and analytical tools.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and industry trends to apply them effectively.

COMPENSATION

Salary: $91,298
