Position Overview:

The Senior Officer for Major and Planned Contributions will oversee the comprehensive process of major and planned giving, encompassing the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of potential donors. This role requires a mission-driven individual with proven success in securing significant donations and managing all facets of major and planned giving.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Donor Engagement: Actively engage in fundraising efforts to secure major and planned gifts from both existing and prospective donors.
  • Proposal Development: Create compelling proposals and written materials, including strategies for donor meetings and correspondence.
  • Event Participation: Attend donor events to cultivate relationships and expand outreach within the environmental community.
  • Goal Setting: Collaborate with leadership to establish and achieve ambitious fundraising goals, supported by a strategic meeting schedule with donors.

Team Collaboration:

  • Work in tandem with the Development Team to meet overall fundraising objectives, particularly in increasing major and planned gifts.
  • Support the engagement of executive leadership in fundraising initiatives.
  • Draft persuasive donor communications, including requests and reports.
  • Coordinate with the Development Team on events and campaigns to connect with major and planned giving prospects.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required; CFRE certification is a plus.
  • 7-9 years of progressive experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a focus on planned giving and major gifts.
  • Demonstrated success in cultivating and securing significant donations.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Comprehensive understanding of major and planned giving strategies and current philanthropic trends.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with a talent for active listening.
  • Ability to produce high-quality written materials, including proposals and reports.
  • Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills, with a creative approach to fundraising.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently on complex donor strategies.
  • Results-oriented with a focus on meeting deadlines and objectives.
  • High integrity and professionalism, with respect for donor confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of environmental issues is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a diverse team.

Travel Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel domestically as needed.
  • Availability for occasional evening or weekend commitments.
