Job SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Compliance Officer to join our legal team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the implementation and maintenance of our Compliance Program, ensuring that our organization maintains business integrity and adheres to all applicable statutes, regulations, and policies.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Manage the day-to-day operation of the Compliance Program, including monitoring and reporting on compliance activities.
- Assist in developing and completing periodical reviews, updates, and audits of our Standards of Conduct to ensure continuing currency and relevance.
- Oversee the implementation and maintenance of our Healthcare Compliance Program, including HIPAA, Stark laws, anti-kickback, False Claims Act, and qui tams.
- Identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk, and develop/implement corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues.
- Respond to alleged violations of rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and Standards of Conduct, and oversee a system for uniform handling of such violations.
- Act as a review and evaluation body to ensure that compliance issues/concerns within the organization are being appropriately evaluated, investigated, and resolved.
- Ensure proper reporting of violations or potential violations to duly authorized enforcement agencies as appropriate and/or required.
- Provide regular reports to Senior Management and the Board on the operation and progress of compliance efforts.
- Revises the Compliance Program considering changes in the needs of the organization due to changes in applicable statutes, regulations, and government policies as needed.
- Develop, coordinate, and participate in educational and training programs that focus on elements of the Compliance Program.
- Ensure that independent contractors and agents of the organization are aware of the requirements of this Compliance Program as they affect the services provided by such contractors and agents.
- Ensure that employees, independent contractors, and agents of the organization have not been excluded from participating in Medicare, Medicaid, or any other federal or state health care program.
- Ensure that the organization does not employ or contract with any individual who has been convicted of a criminal offense related to health care within the previous five years, or who is listed by a federal or state agency as debarred, excluded, or otherwise ineligible for participating in Medicare, Medicaid, or any other federal or state health care program.
- Collaborate with other departments and maintain a good working relationship with other key operational areas.
- Bachelor's degree or Master's degree or the equivalent years of experience preferred.
- Seven plus years healthcare compliance/regulatory experience preferred.
- Home Health and/or senior housing experience preferred but not required.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of healthcare compliance programs in implementing and managing compliance programs.
- Demonstrates ability in compliance, safety and security, and policy implementation and/or auditing.
- Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations.
