About the Role

The University of Chicago is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Philanthropy Officer for Major Gifts to join our Alumni Relations & Development team. As a key member of our fundraising team, you will play a critical role in securing major gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations to support the University's mission and priorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift prospects, with a focus on securing gifts of $100,000 or more.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to engage and solicit major donors, including creating compelling proposals and presentations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including alumni, parents, and friends of the University.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the University to identify and pursue new fundraising opportunities.
  • Stay up-to-date on best practices in major gifts fundraising and share knowledge with colleagues to enhance our fundraising efforts.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in major gifts fundraising, preferably in a higher education or non-profit setting.
  • Proven track record of securing major gifts, with a focus on building and maintaining relationships with donors.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and strategically.
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
