Dallas, Texas, United States International Rescue Committee Full time

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) addresses some of the most severe humanitarian challenges globally, aiding in the restoration of health, safety, education, economic stability, and empowerment for individuals affected by conflict and disaster. Established in 1933 at the behest of Albert Einstein, the IRC stands as one of the largest international humanitarian non-governmental organizations (INGO), operating in over 50 countries and more than 25 U.S. cities, assisting individuals in their journey to survive, regain control over their futures, and fortify their communities. As a champion for humanity, IRC staff create a lasting impact by reinstating safety, dignity, and hope for millions.

Cultural Orientation Overview:
This program provides essential information on cultural topics that influence our refugee clients' ability to achieve self-sufficiency in the United States. The initiative organizes groups of clients to attend orientations either in person or via virtual platforms, covering significant social norms and self-sufficiency-related subjects. Presentations are translated into the clients' primary languages, addressing topics such as credit scores, safeguarding personal information, applying for public benefits, outlining additional program opportunities at IRC, and responding to any urgent inquiries families may have post-presentation.

Intern Responsibilities:
The intern will primarily collaborate with the Social Adjustment Services Staff. Responsibilities include assisting in scheduling families for their orientation sessions, coordinating translation services for the presentations, and providing transportation for clients when necessary. Interns will also have the opportunity to present the orientation, document case notes, and support various related tasks. This internship offers valuable insights into the refugee resettlement process in the Dallas area. IRC is committed to hiring from its intern pool; thus, if you are enthusiastic about pursuing a career in international relations, political science, or seeking nonprofit experience, this internship aligns with your goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

Job Requirements:

- Availability to work a minimum of 15 hours per week during standard business hours

- Presence in the office 2-3 days per week

- Willingness to transport clients as needed (essential for assisting refugees without transportation)

It is advisable to consult with your school's Internship Coordinator before accepting any offers to confirm if this position meets the criteria for academic credit.

Professional Conduct Standards: The IRC and its employees are expected to uphold the values and principles outlined in the IRC Way - our Code of Conduct, which emphasizes Integrity, Service, Accountability, and Equality.

Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion: The IRC is dedicated to fostering a diverse, inclusive, respectful, and safe workplace where all individuals are treated equitably, with dignity and respect. The IRC strictly prohibits and will not tolerate any form of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, or bullying within the workplace. We aim to enhance the representation of women, individuals from the communities we serve, and those who identify with underrepresented races and ethnicities in global power structures.
