Service First Mortgage is currently seeking an Underwriting Team Lead.

The Underwriting Team Lead plays a crucial role in supporting the Underwriting team with technical inquiries and guideline interpretation, ensuring the department effectively meets its objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide guidance to the Underwriting team regarding guideline interpretation and document/condition acceptability.

• Uphold the principles of Guideline Based Lending.

• Oversee the pipeline to ensure consistent adherence to service level agreements (SLAs).

• Review the work of Associate Underwriters to identify coaching and development opportunities.

• Assist with initial credit decisions and condition resolution as needed.

• Issue Mortgage Insurance for applicable files as required.

• Update the Automated Underwriting System for loans as necessary.

• Participate in the initial review of audit findings as requested.

• Complete training requirements as outlined by the Underwriting Manager.

• Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the Underwriting Manager.

Essential Skills:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of engaging effectively and diplomatically with diverse audiences, including senior leadership.

• Strong organizational and planning abilities, with keen attention to detail and the capacity to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload with minimal supervision.

• Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to perform well under tight deadlines and respond appropriately to urgent situations.

• Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment as well as work independently.

• Maintain effective communication and working relationships with management, colleagues, and other departments.

• Customer service orientation and innovative thinking to identify suitable alternatives and solutions for unique challenges.

• High level of integrity, ethics, discretion, and professionalism in managing confidential and sensitive information.

Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s degree is preferred.

• A minimum of 5 years of prior experience in mortgage underwriting.

• Experience with HUD DE, LAPP/SAR, and/or USDA is advantageous.

• Strong working knowledge of Conventional and FHA guidelines.
