Currently, we are seeking an Underwriting Team Lead.
The Underwriting Team Lead plays a crucial role in supporting the Underwriting team with technical inquiries and guideline interpretation, ensuring the department effectively meets its objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Address inquiries from the Underwriting team regarding guideline interpretation and document/condition acceptability.
- Promote the philosophy of Guideline Based Lending.
- Oversee the pipeline to ensure that service level agreements (SLAs) are consistently met.
- Assist in evaluating the work of Associate Underwriters for coaching and development opportunities.
- Support initial credit decisions and condition clearing as needed.
- Issue Mortgage Insurance for files requiring MI as necessary.
- Update the Automated Underwriting System for loans as required.
- Assist with the preliminary review of audit findings upon request.
- Complete training requirements as outlined by the Underwriting Manager.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the Underwriting Manager.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively and diplomatically with diverse audiences, including senior leadership.
- Strong organizational and planning abilities, with attention to detail and the capacity to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload with minimal supervision.
- Highly motivated self-starter capable of thriving under strict deadlines and responding with appropriate urgency to situations requiring quick resolution.
- Able to work collaboratively in a team environment as well as independently.
- Maintain effective communication and working relationships with management, colleagues, and other departments.
- Customer service-oriented with creative problem-solving skills to identify suitable alternatives for unique situations.
- Exhibit a high level of integrity, ethics, discretion, and professionalism in handling confidential and sensitive information.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree is preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of prior mortgage underwriting experience.
- Experience with HUD DE, LAPP/SAR, and/or USDA.
- Strong working knowledge of Conventional and FHA guidelines.
