Currently, we are seeking an Underwriting Team Lead to support our Underwriting department.

The Underwriting Team Lead plays a crucial role in assisting the Underwriting team with technical inquiries and interpreting guidelines to ensure the department meets its objectives effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance to the Underwriting team regarding guideline interpretation and document/condition acceptability.
  • Adhere to the principles of Guideline Based Lending.
  • Oversee the pipeline to ensure that service level agreements (SLAs) are consistently met.
  • Review the work of Associate Underwriters to identify coaching and development opportunities.
  • Assist with initial credit decisions and condition resolution as necessary.
  • Issue Mortgage Insurance for applicable files as required.
  • Update the Automated Underwriting System for loans as needed.
  • Maintain and track all relevant information in LQB for loans processed.
  • Assist with the preliminary review of audit findings as requested.
  • Complete training requirements as outlined by the Underwriting Manager.
  • Perform any additional tasks as assigned by the Underwriting Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively and diplomatically with diverse audiences, including senior leadership.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills, with a keen attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Self-motivated individual capable of thriving under tight deadlines and responding promptly to urgent situations.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team setting as well as work independently.
  • Proficient in maintaining effective communication and relationships with management, colleagues, and other departments.
  • Customer-focused mindset with creative problem-solving skills to identify suitable alternatives for unique scenarios.
  • Proficient in industry automation and software applications.
  • Exemplary integrity, ethics, discretion, and professionalism in handling confidential information.

Educational Background:

  • Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of prior experience in mortgage underwriting.
  • Experience with HUD DE, LAPP/SAR, and/or USDA guidelines.
  • Strong understanding of Conventional and FHA guidelines.
