Currently, we are looking for an Underwriting Team Lead.

The Underwriting Team Lead plays a crucial role in supporting the Underwriting team with technical inquiries and guideline interpretation, ensuring the department effectively meets its objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance to the Underwriting team regarding guideline interpretation and document/condition acceptability.
  • Adhere to the principles of Guideline Based Lending.
  • Oversee the pipeline to ensure that Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are consistently achieved.
  • Review the work of Associate Underwriters to identify coaching and development opportunities.
  • Assist with initial credit decisions and condition resolution as necessary.
  • Issue Mortgage Insurance for applicable files as required.
  • Update the Automated Underwriting System for loans as needed.
  • Participate in the initial review of audit findings upon request.
  • Complete training requirements as established by the Underwriting Manager.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as assigned by the Underwriting Manager.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of engaging effectively and diplomatically with diverse audiences, including senior leadership.
  • Strong organizational and planning abilities, with attention to detail and the capacity to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload with minimal oversight.
  • Highly motivated self-starter, able to work efficiently under tight deadlines and respond promptly to urgent situations.
  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment as well as work independently.
  • Maintain effective communication and working relationships with management, colleagues, and other departments.
  • Customer service-oriented with creative problem-solving skills to identify suitable or alternative programs and solutions for unique scenarios.
  • Exhibit a high level of integrity, ethics, discretion, and professionalism in handling confidential and sensitive information.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of prior experience in mortgage underwriting.
  • Experience with HUD DE, LAPP/SAR, and/or USDA guidelines.
  • Strong understanding of Conventional and FHA guidelines.
