Position Overview:
We are currently seeking an Underwriting Team Lead who will play a pivotal role in guiding the Underwriting team through technical inquiries and interpreting guidelines to ensure the department achieves its objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide assistance in addressing inquiries from the Underwriting team regarding guideline interpretation and the acceptability of documents and conditions.
  • Champion the principles of Guideline Based Lending.
  • Oversee the pipeline to ensure that Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are consistently met.
  • Review the work of Associate Underwriters to identify coaching and development opportunities.
  • Support initial credit decisions and condition clearance as required.
  • Issue Mortgage Insurance for applicable files as necessary.
  • Update the Automated Underwriting System for loans as needed.
  • Maintain and track all relevant information in LQB for loans processed.
  • Assist with the preliminary review of audit findings as requested.
  • Complete training requirements as outlined by the Underwriting Manager.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as assigned by the Underwriting Manager.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of engaging effectively and diplomatically with diverse audiences, including senior leadership.
  • Strong organizational and planning abilities, with a keen attention to detail and the capacity to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload with minimal oversight.
  • Self-motivated individual with the ability to perform well under tight deadlines and respond promptly to urgent situations.
  • Ability to collaborate within a team environment as well as work independently.
  • Maintain effective communication and working relationships with management, colleagues, and other departments.
  • Customer-focused mindset with innovative thinking to identify suitable alternatives and solutions for unique challenges.
  • Proficient in computer usage with knowledge of industry-specific automation and software.
  • Exhibit a high level of integrity, ethics, discretion, and professionalism in managing confidential and sensitive information.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of prior experience in mortgage underwriting.
  • Experience with HUD DE, LAPP/SAR, and/or USDA guidelines.
  • Strong understanding of Conventional and FHA guidelines.
