Service First Mortgage is currently seeking an Underwriting Team Lead.
The Underwriting Team Lead supports the Underwriting team with technical inquiries and guideline interpretation to ensure the department effectively meets its objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
• Address inquiries from the Underwriting team regarding guideline interpretation and document/condition acceptability.
• Uphold the principles of Guideline Based Lending.
• Manage the pipeline to ensure consistent adherence to Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
• Review the work of Associate Underwriters to identify coaching and development opportunities.
• Assist with initial credit decisions and condition resolution as needed.
• Issue Mortgage Insurance for files requiring MI as necessary.
• Update the Automated Underwriting System for loans as required.
• Assist with the preliminary review of audit findings upon request.
• Complete training requirements as outlined by the Underwriting Manager.
• Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the Underwriting Manager.
Essential Skills:
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively and diplomatically with diverse audiences, including senior leadership.
• Strong organizational and planning abilities, with attention to detail and the capacity to multitask and prioritize workload with minimal supervision.
• Highly motivated self-starter capable of working under strict timelines and responding appropriately to urgent situations.
• Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment as well as work independently.
• Maintain effective communication and working relationships with management, colleagues, and related departments.
• Customer service orientation and innovative thinking to identify suitable alternative programs and solutions for unique scenarios.
• High level of integrity, ethics, discretion, and professionalism in managing confidential and sensitive information.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of prior mortgage underwriting experience.
• Experience with HUD DE, LAPP/SAR, and/or USDA guidelines.
• Strong working knowledge of Conventional and FHA guidelines.
