Role Overview:
The Underwriting Team Lead plays a pivotal role in guiding the Underwriting team by addressing technical inquiries and interpreting guidelines to ensure departmental effectiveness in achieving objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide assistance to the Underwriting team regarding guideline interpretation and document/condition acceptability.
  • Maintain the principles of Guideline Based Lending.
  • Oversee the pipeline to ensure consistent adherence to Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Review the work of Associate Underwriters to identify coaching and development opportunities.
  • Support initial credit decisions and condition resolution as required.
  • Issue Mortgage Insurance for applicable files as necessary.
  • Update the Automated Underwriting System for loans as needed.
  • Track and update all relevant information in LQB for loans processed.
  • Assist with the preliminary review of audit findings upon request.
  • Complete training requirements as outlined by the Underwriting Manager.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the Underwriting Manager.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively and diplomatically with diverse audiences, including senior leadership.
  • Strong organizational and planning abilities, with meticulous attention to detail and the capacity to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload independently.
  • Highly motivated self-starter, capable of working efficiently under tight deadlines and responding promptly to urgent situations.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment as well as work autonomously.
  • Maintain strong communication and professional relationships with management, colleagues, and other departments.
  • Customer service-oriented mindset with creative problem-solving skills to address unique situations.
  • Proficient in industry automation and software applications.
  • Exhibit a high level of integrity, ethics, discretion, and professionalism when handling confidential information.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of prior experience in mortgage underwriting.
  • Experience with HUD DE, LAPP/SAR, and/or USDA guidelines.
  • Strong understanding of Conventional and FHA guidelines.
