Job Overview

A. POSITION SUMMARY

This role functions as the primary leader of a teaching team within a preschool setting. The individual in this position is responsible for designing and executing a nurturing, secure, and developmentally suitable educational atmosphere for young children, aimed at fostering growth towards achieving kindergarten readiness skills as outlined in the Head Start Program Performance Standards, the Head Start Child Development and Early Learning Framework, and Kindergarten Readiness Goals. The behavior and interactions within the classroom, with families, the community, and colleagues exemplify a standard of excellence. As part of a comprehensive service system for children and families, this role also acts as a liaison for social services and shares the responsibility for engaging parents in the program. The individual may be reassigned to different classrooms or centers as required for program efficiency and may assume the role of 'program director' for child care licensing purposes.

B. QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

A Bachelor's or Advanced Degree in Early Childhood Education or a Bachelor's degree accompanied by coursework equivalent to a major in Early Childhood Education, along with experience in preschool teaching, is required. The candidate must be prepared to obtain Administrative training within six months of employment. A solid understanding and experience in the philosophy and methodologies of Head Start, early childhood education, and developmentally appropriate practices are essential. Additionally, the candidate must be willing and able to secure Basic First Aid and CPR Certification and maintain it. Acceptable results from tuberculosis and drug screening, a clear criminal background check, and an initial health examination are mandatory post-offer and prior to employment. Preference will be given to current and former Head Start employees, students, and parents who meet the qualifications for available positions.
