Job Responsibilities and Qualifications

Under the supervision of the Manager, Administrative Director, and Medical Director, the Clinical Laboratory Technologist conducts clinical testing in various areas, including blood bank, chemistry, serology, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, special chemistry, microbiology, and manual tests. The Technologist is responsible for obtaining or receiving specimens, executing laboratory tests according to established procedures, comprehending methods and principles, performing and evaluating quality control daily, and notifying the Administrative Director or Manager of any issues. The technologist also conducts preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment, interprets results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits, and organizes work to meet established deadlines while recording all data obtained. Additionally, the technologist is responsible for instructing MT and TLT students. Collaboration with nursing and other hospital staff is essential to ensure timely patient care.   • Evaluate abnormal results and initiate corrective actions with follow-up.
  • Implement troubleshooting skills as necessary to ensure the continuous operation of laboratory equipment.
  • Ensure proficiency testing is conducted and reported according to established procedures.
  • Assist laboratory staff and patient care personnel in executing laboratory-related tasks and procedures.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology from an accredited institution; OR successful completion of a national certification examination approved by the State Board; OR
  • Completion of three years of academic study with a minimum of 90 semester hours at an accredited college or university in a curriculum involving biological or physical sciences, along with at least 12 months of training at a medical technology school accredited by a national agency, and passing a national certification examination approved by the State Board; OR
  • A Bachelor's degree in one of the chemical, physical, or biological sciences from an accredited institution, with at least one year of additional full-time experience or training in the specialty or subspecialty in which tests are performed, and passing a national certification examination approved by the State Board.
  • Current State license (within six months of hire date) or provisional license per State regulations as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist, or
  • A General Supervisor license is required if working independently.
  • Generalist experience in all areas of the laboratory is preferred.
