Job Summary and Qualifications

Under the supervision of the Manager, Administrative Director, and Medical Director, the Clinical Laboratory Specialist conducts clinical testing in various areas, including blood bank, chemistry, serology, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, special chemistry, microbiology, and manual tests. The Specialist obtains or receives specimens, performs laboratory tests according to established procedures, comprehends methods and principles, conducts and evaluates quality control daily, and informs the Administrative Director or Manager of any issues. The Specialist also performs preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment, interprets results regarding their accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits, and organizes work to meet established deadlines while recording all data obtained. Additionally, the Specialist is responsible for instructing MT and TLT students and collaborates actively with nursing and other hospital staff to ensure timely patient care.

Qualifications Required:

A Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology from an accredited institution and a successful score on a national certification examination approved by the State Board; or completion of three years of academic study with a minimum of 90 semester hours at an accredited college or university in a curriculum involving biological or physical science, along with at least 12 months of training at a school of medical technology approved by a national accrediting agency, and passing a national examination for certification approved by the State Board; or a Bachelor's degree in one of the chemical, physical, or biological sciences from an accredited college or university, with at least one year of additional full-time experience or training in the specialty or subspecialty in which tests are performed, and passing a national examination for certification approved by the State Board.

A current State license (within six months of hire date) or provisional license per State regulations as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist, or General Supervisor license is required if working independently.

Generalist experience in all areas of the laboratory is preferred.
