Job Summary and QualificationsUnder the supervision of the Manager, Administrative Director, and Medical Director, the Clinical Laboratory Specialist conducts clinical testing in various areas, including blood bank, chemistry, serology, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, special chemistry, microbiology, and manual tests. Responsibilities include obtaining or receiving specimens, performing laboratory tests according to established procedures, understanding methods and principles, conducting daily quality control evaluations, and reporting any issues to the Administrative Director or Manager. The specialist also performs preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment, interprets results for accuracy and critical limits, organizes work to meet deadlines, and maintains accurate records. Additionally, the specialist is responsible for instructing MT and TLT students and collaborates with nursing and other hospital staff to ensure timely patient care. We value teamwork and are looking for someone who shares our commitment to meaningful patient care.
- Evaluate abnormal results and initiate corrective actions with follow-up.
- Utilize troubleshooting skills to ensure the continuous operation of laboratory instruments.
- Ensure proficiency testing is conducted and reported according to established procedures.
- Assist laboratory and patient care staff in executing laboratory-related tasks and procedures.
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology from an accredited institution; OR successful completion of a national certification examination approved by the State Board; OR
- Three years of academic study with a minimum of 90 semester hours in biological or physical sciences and at least 12 months of training at an accredited medical technology school, followed by passing a national certification examination approved by the State Board; OR
- A Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, or biological sciences from an accredited institution, with at least one year of additional full-time experience or training in the specialty or subspecialty where tests are performed, and passing a national certification examination approved by the State Board.
- Current State license (within six months of hire) or provisional license as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist, or
- A General Supervisor license is required if working independently.
- Generalist experience across all laboratory areas is preferred.
