Job Summary and Qualifications


Under the guidance of the Manager, Administrative Director, and Medical Director, the clinical laboratory specialist conducts clinical testing in one or more of the following areas: blood bank, chemistry, serology, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, special chemistry, microbiology, and manual tests.

The specialist obtains or receives specimens, performs laboratory tests according to established procedures, comprehends methods and principles, conducts and evaluates quality control daily, and informs the Administrative Director or Manager of any issues.

The specialist performs preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment, interprets results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits, and organizes work to meet established deadlines while recording all data obtained.

The specialist is also responsible for instructing MT and TLT students. Works actively and cooperatively with nursing and other hospital staff to ensure timely patient care.

You will be responsible for evaluating abnormal results and initiating corrective action with follow-up.
You will implement troubleshooting skills as needed to ensure the continual operation of laboratory equipment.
You will ensure that proficiency testing is performed and reported according to procedures.
You will assist laboratory staff and patient care staff in executing laboratory-related tasks and procedures.

What qualifications you will need:


A Bachelor's degree in one of the chemical, physical, or biological sciences from an accredited college or university, with at least one year of additional full-time experience or training in the specialty or subspecialty in which tests are performed, and passing a national examination for certification approved by the State Board.
