Embedded Engineering Overview

The PACCAR Embedded Engineering team is rapidly evolving, focusing on revolutionizing the development of control systems and software for commercial vehicles. Position Overview

The Embedded Engineering department, which supports Kenworth, Peterbilt, and DAF, is looking for a Senior Electrical Systems Engineer. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proactive approach and a strong work ethic, responsible for the design of electrical and electronic components and their integration into heavy-duty vehicles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the lifecycle of electrical and electronic components or systems from initial prototype development to production and beyond for autonomous commercial vehicles.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers, software engineers, and other professionals to ensure high-quality electrical designs.
  • Address challenges across various technical domains and throughout the product development lifecycle, from early research to field investigations of mass-produced products.
  • Assist in validation processes with suppliers and internal teams to ensure that quality and reliability standards are met or exceeded.
  • Support new product introductions at assembly plants and resolve identified field issues.
  • Willingness to travel up to 15% as needed.
Required Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is required.
  • Master's degree in a relevant technical discipline (Computer Science/Electrical Engineering preferred) and/or Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in the design and release of electrical components for automotive or commercial vehicles, including software, wiring harnesses, electronic controls, and driver input devices.
  • Proficiency in engineering tools such as Pro-Engineer, Mentor Graphics, Matlab/Simulink, and Rhapsody.
  • Familiarity with SAE J1939, ISO 26262, and ISO 17987 LIN Protocol standards and compliance practices.
  • Understanding of heavy-duty commercial truck regulations impacting electrical/electronic design and functionality.
  • Experience managing suppliers through established processes.
  • Knowledge of Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) tools including FMEA and QFD.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, along with effective planning and tracking abilities.
  • Competent in standard business software applications.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new processes and technologies to resolve complex technical challenges.
