Position Overview

We are looking for an Embedded Hardware Engineer to join our Embedded Engineering department, which supports Kenworth, Peterbilt, and DAF. The ideal candidate will possess a proactive attitude and a strong work ethic, taking responsibility for the design of electrical and electronic components and subsystems, as well as their integration into heavy-duty vehicles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the lifecycle of electrical and electronic components or systems from initial prototype development to production and beyond, specifically for autonomous commercial trucks.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers, software engineers, and other specialists to ensure high-quality electrical designs.
  • Address challenges across various technical domains and throughout the product development lifecycle, from early research to field failures and warranty investigations.
  • Assist in validation activities with suppliers and internal teams to maintain and exceed industry-leading quality and reliability standards for all components and systems.
  • Support new product launches at assembly plants and resolve any identified field issues.
  • Willingness to travel up to 15% as required.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is required.
  • Master's degree in a relevant technical discipline (Computer Science/Electrical Engineering preferred) and/or Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in the design and release of electrical components for automotive or commercial vehicles, including software, wiring harnesses, electronic controls, and driver input devices.
  • Proficient in engineering tools such as Pro-Engineer, Mentor Graphics, Matlab/Simulink, and Rhapsody.
  • Familiarity with SAE J1939, ISO 26262, and ISO 17987 LIN Protocol standards and compliance practices.
  • Understanding of heavy-duty commercial truck regulations affecting instrumentation, emissions, safety, and On-Board Diagnostics.
  • Experience in supplier management through AlAG processes.
  • Knowledge of Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) tools, including FMEA and QFD.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, along with effective planning and tracking abilities.
  • Competency in standard business software applications (word processing, spreadsheets, etc.).
  • Aptitude for learning and applying new processes, techniques, and software to solve complex technical challenges.
