Job Overview

The Baggage Operations Supervisor is accountable for managing the daily functions of the baggage handling crew. This position involves ensuring the prompt, precise, and secure handling of passenger luggage while addressing and resolving operational challenges. You will also be responsible for training and mentoring the baggage handling personnel and ensuring compliance with airport safety and security regulations. Effective communication with airline representatives and other airport departments is essential to facilitate smooth baggage operations and enhance the overall passenger experience.

INSIGHTS INTO THE ROLE OF A BAGGAGE OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR

· You enjoy collaborating with a team towards shared objectives

· Oversee the daily activities of the baggage handling crew

· Ensure timely and accurate processing of passenger luggage

· Monitor compliance with baggage handling protocols and safety regulations

· Conduct training sessions for both new and existing team members on baggage handling practices

· Address operational challenges and passenger inquiries related to baggage

· Coordinate with airlines and airport authorities for efficient baggage transfer

· Implement strategies to improve efficiency in baggage handling

· You possess strong attention to detail

· You thrive in both team settings and independent tasks

· Supervisory capabilities

· Excellent customer service skills

· Ability to cultivate long-term relationships with customers

· Physical demands may include:

· Standing and walking for extended durations

· Lifting weights of 70 pounds or more

· Ability to hear and respond to verbal communication and audible alarms in the terminal environment

· Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less); Distance Vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more); Color Vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors); Peripheral Vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point); Depth Perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships); Ability to Adjust Focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus)

Required Qualifications

· Minimum age of 18 years

· Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the English language, including comprehension of documents

· 2 years of experience in customer service

· 1 year of experience in baggage handling

· Comfortable using computers, mobile devices, and tablets

· Ability to pass a drug screening

· Eligibility to obtain necessary credentials and clearances (FAA, TSA, Port Authority, U.S. Customs, and U.S. Postal, as applicable)
