Job Overview

The Baggage Runner is responsible for the swift and secure movement of passenger luggage throughout the airport. This role involves transporting baggage between terminals, to and from aircraft, and ensuring proper loading and unloading of luggage onto conveyor systems. A strong commitment to safety and security protocols is essential, along with the ability to operate efficiently under tight timelines. Additionally, you may assist in organizing and sorting luggage in the baggage claim area and addressing passenger inquiries regarding their baggage.

WHAT TO EXPECT AS A BAGGAGE RUNNER
  • Collaborate with your team towards shared objectives
  • Swiftly and safely transport baggage across various airport locations
  • Handle passenger luggage with care to prevent damage
  • Assist in loading and unloading baggage from aircraft
  • Efficiently operate baggage trolleys and other transport equipment
  • Verify baggage tags and ensure correct routing to flights
  • Help in sorting and organizing baggage in the claim area
  • Respond promptly to passenger inquiries related to baggage
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail
  • Exhibit excellent customer service skills
  • Build lasting relationships with customers
  • Physical requirements may include:
  • Standing and walking for extended periods
  • Ability to lift 70 pounds or more
  • Capability to hear and respond to spoken communication and audible alarms in the terminal environment
  • Visual requirements include close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), peripheral vision (ability to observe areas while focusing on a specific point), depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances), and the ability to adjust focus
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English, including comprehension of documents
  • One year of customer service experience
  • Comfortable using computers, mobile devices, and tablets
  • Must pass a drug screening
  • Eligibility to obtain necessary credentials and clearances (FAA, TSA, Port Authority, U.S. Customs, and U.S. Postal, as applicable)
