Key Responsibilities:
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Comprehending the client's vision for automated satellite operations to enhance the efficiency of ground system utilization.
  • Providing plans and updates on technical and execution matters concerning mission planning, RPO operations, On-Orbit Test, and mission execution to the NG Program Office and Customer.
  • Offering Space Operations expertise to both internal and external stakeholders to ensure spacecraft/payload and ground system health, status, anomaly troubleshooting, and resolution within the scope of contracts.
  • Ensuring the customer is informed about the current operational capabilities of the system, including which vehicles are fully operational, which have limited capabilities, and which are currently non-serviceable due to anomalies.
  • Acting as a technical liaison between the NG Program Office and end users to guarantee successful mission execution.
  • Providing technical leadership, guidance, and mentoring to other technical personnel in applying systems engineering principles, tools, and techniques to achieve practical outcomes.
  • Collaborating with management to ensure adherence to standard NG processes and policies.
  • Driving process development, continuous improvement, and cost-effectiveness initiatives.
  • Working with end users and the Mission Planner Team to develop RPO Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures.
  • Providing on-call support for rendezvous and proximity operations (RPO) missions and resolving system issues and anomalies.
This position may require occasional shift work including swing or night shifts, and/or 12-hour shifts including holidays and/or weekends. The candidate must be self-motivated, able to work in a dynamic team environment, and work under general direction while independently determining and developing approaches to solutions.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a STEM-related field.
  • 14+ years of relevant experience.
  • An active or current TS/SCI clearance is required at the time of application/start.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Strong communication skills, interpersonal skills, and proficiency in oral and written presentations.
  • Demonstrated experience in satellite operations engineering disciplines, including orbital mechanics, attitude control, power management, thermal control, propulsion, command and data handling, flight and ground software, and anomaly determination and resolution.
  • Experience with RPO mission planning and execution.
  • Ability to present technical solutions formally to senior leadership teams.
  • Capability to make decisions under high-pressure environments and maintain composure in stressful situations.
  • Aptitude for troubleshooting and resolving problems in a dynamic environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience directly managing or leading large engineering teams.
  • Experience as a technical lead, Integrated Product Team Lead, or in another leadership role within a program office or business function with demonstrated team building, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with one or more of the following programming languages/tools: MATLAB, Python, SIMULINK, Fortran, Java, C/C++.
  • Experience with fleet management of satellite constellations.
  • Familiarity with various astrodynamics tools (FreeFlyer, System Tool Kit (STK), NASA General Mission Analysis Tool (GMAT), Orbit Determination Toolbox (ODTBX).
  • Prior aerospace-related work experience for a U.S. Government Agency or Contractor.

Salary Range:
$166,000 - $229,000. The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
