Key Responsibilities:

  • Comprehend the client's vision for automated satellite operations to enhance the utilization of ground systems.
  • Deliver plans and updates on technical and execution aspects concerning mission planning, rendezvous and proximity operations, on-orbit testing, and mission execution to the Northrop Grumman Program Office and clients.
  • Offer Space Operations expertise to both internal and external stakeholders to ensure the health, status, anomaly troubleshooting, and resolution of spacecraft/payload and ground systems within contractual scopes.
  • Ensure the client is informed about the current operational capabilities of the system, including which vehicles are fully operational, which have limited capabilities, and which are currently non-operational due to anomalies.
  • Act as a technical liaison between the Northrop Grumman Program Office and end users to guarantee successful mission execution.
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to fellow technical staff in applying systems engineering principles, tools, and techniques to achieve effective outcomes.
  • Collaborate with management to ensure adherence to standard Northrop Grumman processes and policies.
  • Drive process development, continuous improvement, and cost-effectiveness initiatives.
  • Work with end users and the Mission Planner Team to formulate tactics, techniques, and procedures for rendezvous and proximity operations.
  • Provide on-call support for rendezvous and proximity operations missions and the resolution of system issues and anomalies.

Additional Information:

This role may require occasional shift work, including swing or night shifts, and/or 12-hour shifts, including holidays and weekends.

The ideal candidate will be self-driven, capable of thriving in a dynamic team environment, and able to work under general guidance while independently determining and developing solutions.

This position may be filled as a Senior Staff Engineer, Systems, (Level 6) based on experience and qualifications.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a STEM-related field.
  • 14+ years of relevant experience.
  • An active or current TS/SCI clearance is required at the time of application/start.
  • U.S. citizenship is mandatory.
  • Strong communication skills, interpersonal skills, and proficiency in oral and written presentations.
  • Demonstrated experience in satellite operations engineering disciplines, including orbital mechanics, attitude control, power management, thermal control, propulsion, command and data handling, flight and ground software, and anomaly resolution.
  • Experience with rendezvous and proximity operations mission planning and execution.
  • Proven ability to formally present technical solutions to senior leadership teams.
  • Ability to make decisions in high-pressure environments while maintaining composure.
  • Capability to troubleshoot and resolve issues in a dynamic setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in managing or leading large engineering teams.
  • Experience as a technical lead, Integrated Product Team Lead, or in other leadership roles within a program office or business function, demonstrating team-building, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in programming languages/tools such as MATLAB, Python, SIMULINK, Fortran, Java, C/C++.
  • Experience with fleet management of satellite constellations.
  • Familiarity with various astrodynamics tools (e.g., FreeFlyer, System Tool Kit (STK), NASA General Mission Analysis Tool (GMAT), Orbit Determination Toolbox (ODTBX)).
  • Prior aerospace-related experience with a U.S. Government Agency or Contractor.

Salary Range: $166,000 - $229,000
The above salary range serves as a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers multiple factors when determining base salary offers, including the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay, designed to reward individual contributions and allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may qualify for Long Term Incentives.
