Position Overview:

Stanford University is on the lookout for a Life Science Research Professional 2 to join the Deisseroth Lab within the CNC (Cracking the Neural Code) Program. This role involves undertaking intricate tasks and responsibilities associated with designated research initiatives while independently managing segments of these projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently execute components of research projects, providing insights on experimental frameworks and research trajectories to the principal investigator.
  • Conduct sophisticated laboratory and/or field experiments to collect data integral to significant research endeavors.
  • Analyze and interpret findings, often in situations with limited guidelines, and adjust existing methodologies and protocols as necessary.
  • Formulate new research protocols when existing literature does not provide adequate guidance or when standard procedures require modification.
  • Engage in collaborative efforts across various faculties or schools.
  • Maintain an ongoing review of relevant literature to stay updated on new methodologies and research, applying this knowledge to current projects and the development of new protocols.
  • Contribute meaningfully to the drafting of research papers for publication, particularly in the results section, and present ongoing research at academic conferences.
  • Manage the budget for supplies and equipment under the supervision of the principal investigator or business manager.
  • Collaborate with the health and safety department to ensure laboratory compliance with regulations and required training.
  • Provide supervision (formally or informally) to staff or students as necessary, offering guidance on techniques and project work, and serving as a technical resource for other research personnel.
  • Oversee daily laboratory operations, including maintenance, inventory management, and general lab support, with potential involvement in the procurement of laboratory equipment.

Compensation:

The anticipated salary range for this position is between $71,000 and $88,000 annually. Stanford University offers pay ranges that reflect its good faith estimate of what it expects to pay for this role. The final salary will be determined based on various factors, including the scope of responsibilities, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget considerations, internal equity, geographic location, and external market compensation for similar positions.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience: A Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline and two years of pertinent work experience; or a Master's degree in a related scientific field.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent standing, walking, twisting, bending, stooping, squatting, and performing desk-based computer tasks.
  • Occasional sitting, kneeling, crawling, reaching, and sorting paperwork.
  • Must possess correctable vision to perform job duties effectively.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing over 40 pounds.
  • Ability to work in environments that may be dusty, dirty, or odorous.
