About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Property Facultative Underwriter to join our team in Latin America. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will be responsible for underwriting a diverse book of facultative property business, including production and marketing activities.

This role requires strong analytical and technical skills, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will work closely with colleagues internationally to build a portfolio of business that is structured to produce and maintain profitable results throughout the market cycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Underwrite a book of General Property Facultative business
  • Collaborate with colleagues internationally to develop and execute the production and sales process
  • Build strong relationships with clients and reinsurance brokers to cultivate continuous flow of reinsurance opportunities
  • Negotiate with brokers on new and renewal business and involve senior management in the process as needed
  • Maintain collaboration along different business areas such as operations, claims, legal, accounting among others

Requirements:

  • Strong analytical and technical skills, with ability to understand and assess market trends
  • Knowledge of and ability to assess standard policy language
  • Ability to review specific coverage requests to determine current risk appetite and/or whether review by additional senior underwriting authority is required
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to engage clients, brokers and colleagues and gain their trust as partner and collaborator
  • Ability to produce and work with system-generated reports
  • Highly collaborative and versatile, with ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish, with proficiency in Portuguese a plus
  • Sound business judgment, with ability to make quantitative and qualitative assessments of risk
  • Unquestionable professional integrity

Education and Experience:

  • A college or university degree is required
  • CPCU, ARE or other industry designations are preferred
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in progressively advancing underwriting roles in the insurance, reinsurance industry and/or in the reinsurance broking sector
  • Strong industry relationships and well respected by reinsurance brokers and insurers
  • A thorough understanding of the underlying business
  • A strong grasp of policy forms and pricing schemes
