About the Role:
The Summer Analyst position at Starwood Property Trust is an 8-week commercial real estate and structured finance internship opportunity. This role provides a unique chance to gain hands-on experience in the industry and work with a talented team of professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist full-time Rotational Analysts in commercial real estate and structured finance projects, including ad hoc projects for senior management and third-party investment partners.
- Monitor portfolio performance, analyze potential credit issues, and respond to inquiries from investors and rating agencies.
- Support the Acquisitions team in analyzing and investing in commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS), sub-performing whole-loan pools, and other CRE debt products.
- Collaborate with Loan Asset Managers in pursuing resolutions for defaulted loans, including negotiating potential loan workouts and evaluating other asset dispositions.
- Provide analytical support for the management, lease-up, and ultimate disposition of foreclosed properties.
- Support the effort to develop debt and equity investment opportunities arising from servicing activities, monitor and maintain the opportunity pipeline, and underwrite qualified investment opportunities.
- Assist in learning to identify and underwrite potential lending opportunities and provide support to management in the analysis of originating commercial real estate mortgage loans.
- Support the growth and development of the trading platform.
- Provide analytical support to the overall team in connection with the ongoing asset management and monitoring of the performance of SPT's structured investments.
Requirements:
- Currently pursuing a college or university degree.
- Outstanding record of academic achievement.
- Strong interest in commercial real estate.
