Position Overview:

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of The Children's School (TCS) will be the primary leader of our educational institution, responsible for the comprehensive strategic planning and administration of the school. With a long-standing history of educational excellence, TCS is committed to providing a secure, compassionate, and dynamic learning environment where every child can flourish.

TCS offers a community-based program licensed to care for children from infancy through four years of age. We collaborate with Arlington Public Schools (APS) Integration Station (IS) to provide integrated educational programs for children with disabilities aged 2-5, making Integration Station a valued part of the TCS community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership: Provide visionary and strategic guidance to uphold and advance the mission, values, and objectives of The Children's School.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality early childhood educational experiences that cater to the diverse needs of our student population.
  • Cultural Development: Foster a culture of safety, compassion, trust, and excellence throughout all school operations.
  • Professional Development: Serve as a role model for staff, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to ongoing improvement.
  • Community Representation: Represent TCS in community, city, and county-wide early childhood policy initiatives, showcasing TCS's leadership in the broader early childhood sector.

Family and Community Engagement:

  • Build strong relationships with families, fostering a welcoming and inclusive school community.
  • Maintain consistent, effective, and transparent communication with parents and caregivers, providing regular updates on school activities and child development.
  • Engage with the broader Arlington Public School community to cultivate partnerships and promote the school's mission.

Curriculum Development:

  • Collaborate with IS administration to design, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive curriculum that supports optimal childhood development.
  • Ensure that teaching practices and educational programs are evidence-based, inclusive, and aligned with current best practices in early childhood education.
  • Support and mentor teaching staff, providing professional development opportunities and fostering a collaborative educational environment.
  • Highlight the significance of social-emotional learning, creativity, and play-based learning within the curriculum.

Operations and Financial Management:

  • Oversee the financial health of the school, including the development and management of the organizational budget, ensuring sustainability and growth.
  • Manage daily operations and facilities, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and maintaining high standards of safety and cleanliness.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures that enhance efficient school operations.
  • Collaborate closely with the Board of Directors to align operational strategies with the school's long-term goals.

Essential Skills and Competencies:

  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; prioritize effective communication and engagement with families, staff, and community stakeholders.
  • Organizational Management: Strong project management skills; ability to develop and implement clear systems and processes.
  • Safety and Care: Commitment to creating and maintaining a safe, clean, and nurturing environment for all children and staff.
  • Child Development Expertise: In-depth knowledge of early childhood development principles and practices, including special education.
  • Empathy: Demonstrated understanding and compassion in interactions with children, families, and staff.
  • Diversity and Inclusion: Commitment to ensuring all members of the school community feel valued and respected.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years of experience in early childhood education, with at least three years in a leadership role.
  • Meets Program Director qualifications for Arlington County and Commonwealth of Virginia, including an Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
  • Proven success in program development and operational management.
  • Strong financial management skills and experience with budgeting.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of state licensing requirements.
  • Authorized to work in the US.
