KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Safety Compliance Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the Safety Department in the ongoing enhancement, development, and oversight of Bolthouse Fresh Foods' safety initiatives. This role will collaborate with Department Leaders and the Safety Manager to reduce workplace injuries by refining site-specific safety programs, conducting training sessions, implementing safety policies and procedures, performing safety evaluations, investigating incidents, and facilitating regulatory inspections. The position will utilize its expertise to assist the Leadership Team in managing our Injury and Illness Prevention Program, ensuring compliance with Cal/OSHA regulations while fostering a proactive safety culture to maintain a secure, healthy, and accident-free workplace.

  • Collaborate with the Safety Leadership Team to devise and execute safety policies and procedures in alignment with local, state, and federal OSHA regulations.
  • Assist in planning and executing training programs for managers and employees on workplace safety practices, fire prevention, and proper handling techniques for hazardous materials.
  • Support all departments in adhering to our Injury & Illness Prevention Program and other safety initiatives.
  • Conduct inspections and assessments, working with site leadership to identify areas for improvement.
  • Coordinate first aid supplies and assist with personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Assist in investigating incidents and injuries, providing support in preparing materials for hearings, lawsuits, and insurance inquiries.
  • Compile and submit incident reports as mandated by regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain safety documentation and records.
  • Deliver in-person and virtual training on safety-related processes, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the Contractor Safety Program, including vetting, training, and tracking incidents involving contractors on-site.
  • Stay informed about Occupational Safety and Health Act standards in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Valid California Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.
  • 1-3 years of experience in Health and Safety.
  • Familiarity with behavior-based safety programs.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Bilingual in Spanish, with proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to lead, motivate, and organize various safety training activities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with employees.
  • Capability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Willingness to travel overnight and attend meetings as required.
  • Ability to maintain composure in high-pressure situations and communicate effectively through various channels.
  • Experience handling confidential information responsibly.
  • Knowledge of compliance and legal safety requirements.
  • Ability to make informed decisions based on policies and prior experiences.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access.
  • Professional demeanor and approachability.
  • Commitment to following company policies and safety regulations.
  • Demonstrated sound judgment in performing work safely and in compliance with regulatory standards.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in safety within the Agriculture or Food Manufacturing sectors is advantageous.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods during work hours.
  • Capability to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to walk or stand for prolonged periods as needed.

WORK SCHEDULE:

  • Day shift (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM) Monday through Friday, with potential for before/after hours work as required.
  • Participation in a weekend rotation may be necessary for support as needed.
