Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Public Safety Officer to join our team at Kern Community College District. As a Public Safety Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of our campus community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patrol campus buildings and grounds to prevent and respond to security incidents
  • Investigate and report incidents, including theft, vandalism, and unauthorized access
  • Enforce parking regulations and issue citations as necessary
  • Provide escort services for faculty, staff, and students as required
  • Respond to emergency medical situations and summon medical personnel as needed
  • Submit routine reports of activities, including incident and accident reports
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; one year of experience in a security setting preferred
  • Specialized training in police science, public administration, or a related field desirable
  • Proof of completion of School Security Course certification
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license
  • Possession of a valid CPR and First Aid certificates
  • Satisfactory completion of pre-employment physical assessment and drug testing
Knowledge and Abilities
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures of investigation, arrest, search, and seizure
  • Knowledge of procedures of crowd control and emergency response
  • Ability to learn and apply pertinent provisions of the State Penal Code, Vehicle Code, and Education Code
  • Ability to operate a patrol vehicle and patrol equipment in a safe and effective manner
  • Ability to conduct an investigation according to District policy
Working Conditions

The Public Safety Officer will work in a fast-paced environment, responding to a variety of security incidents and emergencies. The position requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a high level of attention to detail and a commitment to providing excellent customer service.
