Thompson Engineering is seeking a skilled Chief Human Resources Strategist to lead our HR initiatives from our headquarters.

The HR Strategist is responsible for crafting and implementing policies and practices that govern human capital management, recruitment, compliance with regulations, compensation structures, benefits design, employee relations, training programs, performance evaluation, and leadership development.

This role is pivotal in fostering a workplace culture that enhances both employee engagement and organizational commitment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate, execute, and refine policies and practices related to human capital management, including hiring, compensation, labor relations, and employee development.
  • Promote a workplace atmosphere that boosts employee morale, collaboration, and dedication to the company’s strategic objectives.
  • Exercise authority in hiring, termination, and compensation adjustments, ensuring alignment with established policies and budgetary constraints.
  • Identify and adhere to legal and regulatory requirements impacting human resources, ensuring compliance in all policies, reporting, and training.
  • Provide essential training for supervisors to enhance their effectiveness in managing their teams.
  • Oversee the employee performance management system to ensure fairness, compliance, and effectiveness.
  • Develop and implement recruitment strategies that balance cost-effectiveness with quality hiring practices.
  • Maintain a secure and confidential system for personnel documentation, conducting regular audits for accuracy.
  • Analyze and address the root causes of employee turnover.
  • Ensure the creation and distribution of comprehensive job descriptions, facilitating regular reviews and updates.
  • Manage involuntary separations to minimize workplace disruption and potential liabilities.
  • Conduct exit interviews to gather insights for organizational improvement.
  • Represent the organization in personnel-related hearings and investigations.
  • Develop and maintain an Employee Handbook that encapsulates all personnel policies, ensuring it remains current.
  • Stay informed on HR trends and regulatory changes through continuous professional development.
  • Conduct employee satisfaction surveys to identify areas for enhancement and communicate findings to management.
  • Collaborate closely with supervisors to ensure equitable handling of personnel matters in accordance with company policies and legal standards.
  • Maintain an open-door policy and engage with employees to foster transparent communication.
  • Work with executive leadership to facilitate talent reviews and succession planning.
  • Design and implement compensation strategies that align with performance-based incentives.
  • Lead initiatives aimed at organizational effectiveness, leadership, and talent development to enhance productivity and financial performance.
  • Chair the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) Committee, educating employees on its value and keeping the Board informed.
  • Supervise HR staff to ensure a comprehensive benefits package that serves as both a recruitment and retention tool.
  • Develop wellness programs to enhance workforce health and reduce insurance costs.
  • Prioritize safety within the organization, ensuring compliance with corporate safety standards.
  • Collaborate with safety personnel to manage drug testing protocols.
  • Oversee medical case management for employee injuries to ensure appropriate care and minimize severity.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 10 years of management experience in human resources, with prior experience as a Human Resources Director or Manager preferred.
  • A relevant four-year degree is required; PHR certification is mandatory, while SPHR certification is desirable.
  • Extensive knowledge of employment laws and practices.
  • Exceptional communication skills to engage effectively with management, employees, and clients.
  • Proficient in talent development tools and methodologies.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours and overtime when necessary.
  • Capability to operate a computer for extended periods.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
