Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Peer Support Specialist to join our interdisciplinary team at WestCare. As a Peer Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in assisting Veterans in their recovery journey, providing support, guidance, and advocacy in a rehabilitation treatment program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement Wellness Recovery Action Plans (WRAP) with program participants to promote their recovery and well-being.
  • Provide services within the Zero Suicide framework, including warm hand-offs, to ensure the safety and support of Veterans.
  • Conduct community-based outreach to engage program-eligible individuals and their families, promoting access to services and support.
  • Deliver safeTALK, an evidence-based suicide prevention education program, to Veterans, family members, and community members.
  • Handle crisis interventions and emergent situations, providing support and guidance to Veterans and their families.
  • Develop and lead mental and physical health activities for program participants and their families, promoting wellness and engagement.
  • Provide presentations to community organizations, promoting WestCare's mission and services.
  • Embody the mission, vision, and guiding principles of WestCare, demonstrating a commitment to excellence and compassion.
Requirements
  • Two years of peer support experience, preferably in suicide prevention services.
  • Peer support certification in good standing, to be obtained within six months of hire.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • CPR Certification, First Aid Certification, and annual Tuberculosis test required.
