POSITION SUMMARY
The Marine Vessel Operator is tasked with the management and upkeep of the assigned watercraft. Responsibilities may extend to operating additional machinery and performing maintenance tasks, with a primary emphasis on ensuring the safe operation of all assigned equipment.
This role will operate under the direct oversight of the Leverman.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage the operation of assigned marine equipment.
- Ensure that all equipment is serviced according to the established maintenance schedule.
- Maintain an inventory of spare parts and consumables.
- Keep equipment organized and in pristine condition, including proper storage of items, neatly coiled ropes, and regular cleaning and painting of both interior and exterior surfaces.
- Perform additional duties as required.
- Engage in Safety and Environmental initiatives to ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations and enhance existing Company programs.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate must possess:
- Experience in open water environments.
- Background in operating large twin-screw vessels.
- Experience with tender boat operations.
- Maintenance skills relevant to marine equipment.
- Prior experience as a Deckhand.
- Knowledge of dredging processes.
- Understanding of dredge pipeline operations in open water.
- Ability to adhere to safety protocols and regulations.
- Capability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to work at remote project sites for extended periods.
- Reliability and motivation.
- Ability to obtain a TWIC card.
- Familiarity with various marine equipment, tools, and devices.
- Effective communication skills with colleagues and supervisors.
- Competencies in stress management, teamwork, and results orientation.
PREFERRED SKILLS
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The candidate must be capable of performing essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. This includes the ability to wear and properly use necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, life vests, respirators, ear protection, steel-toed footwear, and other required safety gear.
Additionally, the Marine Vessel Operator must be able to:
- Move between various locations on the job site, which may involve different heights and access challenges.
- Stand, bend, twist, crouch, kneel, and sit for extended periods.
- Perform repetitive movements with limbs during work tasks.
- Lift and carry up to 30 lbs independently; for weights exceeding 30 lbs, mechanical assistance is required.
- Exert peak force of up to 150 lbs for pushing and pulling tasks.
- Climb stairs and vertical ladders exceeding 6 ft in height.
- Work in confined spaces and at elevated heights.
- Adapt to varying temperatures, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dust, moisture, noise, and vibration.
