POSITION SUMMARY
The Marine Equipment Operator is tasked with the upkeep and operation of various land-based machinery, including but not limited to Track hoes, Bulldozers, Front End Loaders, Forklifts, and Telehandlers. This role involves ensuring that all maintenance records are accurate and that daily equipment logs are submitted to the supervising authority. The operator must guarantee that all machinery functions correctly and safely while maintaining productivity.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate and maintain shore-based machinery efficiently.
- Conduct Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) during shifts.
- Participate in monthly safety drills.
- Accurately account for operational time.
- Ensure machinery is serviced according to the established maintenance schedule.
- Maintain an inventory of spare parts and consumables.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Engage in Safety and Environmental initiatives to ensure compliance with regulations and enhance company programs.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION
Applicants must possess:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience operating heavy machinery in the marine construction and dredging sectors.
- A solid understanding of the maintenance requirements for the equipment.
- The ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Compliance with safety regulations and protocols.
- The capacity to work in remote locations for extended periods.
- Reliability and motivation.
- The ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
- Effective communication skills with colleagues and supervisors.
- Competencies in stress management, teamwork, and results orientation.
PREFERRED SKILLS
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The operator must be capable of performing essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations. This includes the ability to wear and properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. The role also demands:
- Mobility across varying heights and access points on the job site.
- Repetitive physical activities such as standing, bending, and lifting.
- The ability to lift and carry loads up to 30 lbs independently, with assistance required for heavier items.
- Capability to exert force of up to 150 lbs.
- Climbing stairs and ladders exceeding 6 ft in height.
- Working in confined spaces and at elevated heights.
- Adaptability to diverse environmental conditions, including temperature fluctuations and exposure to noise and vibration.
