Opportunity Overview


WSP is embarking on a search for a Vice President of Coastal Restoration Solutions. This role will involve engagement in projects with our Earth & Environment Team, contributing to a dynamic organization dedicated to fulfilling client objectives and resolving their challenges.


The ideal candidate will be a seasoned professional with a background in Environmental Science, Biology, Marine Science, Coastal Engineering, or a related field, possessing a strong sales acumen and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse clients, including regulatory bodies, to communicate our service offerings and spearhead business opportunities.

The successful applicant will demonstrate an innovative and open-minded approach to coastal management and protection strategies, alongside robust experience in local, state, and federal permitting processes.

Key Responsibilities


• Collaborate with WSP Project Directors, Project Managers, and technical teams to support a variety of environmental initiatives, including coastal habitat restoration and monitoring, resiliency planning, and permitting for coastal infrastructure.

• Oversee and manage cross-functional teams in executing project tasks, ensuring compliance with permitting strategies, environmental impact assessments, and regulatory standards while monitoring project budgets and expenses.

• Coordinate the collection, analysis, and reporting of environmental monitoring data, focusing on habitat characterization, water quality metrics, shoreline changes, and coastal land use.

• Analyze coastal conditions and assist in the planning, design, and permitting of various coastal and marine habitat restoration initiatives, emphasizing coastal protection and resilience.

• Prepare comprehensive data summaries and visualizations, including tables, charts, reports, and models, to effectively communicate complex data and findings.

• Develop detailed memorandums, technical reports, and presentations that elucidate research methodologies, findings, and recommendations for coastal restoration projects.

• Engage actively in business development, identifying profitable opportunities, and writing proposals, including scoping and costing for medium to large-scale projects.

• Foster consensus among diverse stakeholders on coastal issues through effective coordination.

• Utilize scientific principles and innovative ideas to establish best practices in coastal restoration and resilience.

• Stay informed on the latest advancements in environmental science and techniques.

• Collaborate with professionals across various disciplines to deliver forward-thinking solutions for clients.

• Maintain professional relationships with clients, regulatory agencies, and technical staff.

• Lead and participate in client and regulatory meetings with confidence and professionalism.

• Uphold ethical decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct.

• Perform additional responsibilities and support various projects as necessary to meet client goals and contribute to organizational success.

Candidate Profile


Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Marine Science, Coastal Engineering, or a related field.

• Over 10 years of relevant experience in coastal habitat restoration, monitoring, resiliency planning, and coastal permitting.

• Proficiency in underwater data collection, coastal species identification, and statistical analysis.

• Understanding of the wave attenuation capabilities of reefs, marshes, and mangrove ecosystems.

• Experience in collecting and processing bathymetric and wave data using innovative techniques.

• Ability to conduct hydraulic analyses using numerical modeling software for hydrodynamics, waves, and sediment transport.

• Familiarity with ArcGIS.

• Extensive experience with permitting agencies and environmental regulations.

• Proven track record in leading technical reports, environmental permit applications, and field surveys.

• Strong project management skills with the ability to track project hours and expenses.

• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.

• Proficient in technical writing and office software (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

• Ability to work independently and lead junior team members.

• Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to health and safety policies.

• Willingness to work in remote coastal areas and adapt to project-specific schedules.


Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Marine Science, Coastal Engineering, or a related field.

• SCUBA certification, boat operation experience, and FAA Part 107 Unmanned Pilot Certification are advantageous.

• Completion of 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER).

• Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training.
