Position Overview: The Florida Oceanographic Society is in search of a dedicated Research Scientist to enhance benthic research and restoration efforts within the Indian River Lagoon ecosystem. This role involves collaboration with the Director of Research and Conservation and the Executive Director to spearhead and sustain research initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute ecological studies focused on benthic environments.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports and contribute to scientific publications.
  • Maintain expertise in relevant scientific disciplines to support ongoing projects.
  • Engage in professional development through training, seminars, and literature review.
  • Identify and secure funding for research and conservation projects.
  • Present findings at scientific conferences and workshops.
  • Oversee environmental permitting processes for various initiatives.
  • Assist in community outreach programs related to research efforts.
  • Collaborate with governmental, non-governmental, and academic entities on research initiatives.
  • Perform additional tasks as directed by supervisory staff.

Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in environmental or marine science from an accredited institution, along with four years of relevant professional experience.
  • Proficiency in scientific writing, data analysis, and research design.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills to handle multiple projects effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate reliability.
  • Familiarity with subtropical coastal ecosystems and their inhabitants.
  • Physical capability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and endure challenging outdoor conditions.
  • Valid driver's license and eligibility for automobile insurance.
  • Competence in relevant software applications, including GIS and statistical programs.
