Position Overview
Title: Chief Executive Officer

Location: Flexible

Reporting Structure: Reports to the Board of Directors

Key Responsibilities
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will provide comprehensive leadership for SME. This role encompasses advancing the organization's vision, executing strategic initiatives, managing objectives outlined in annual plans and budgets, fostering innovation, and cultivating robust relationships with partners, members, and institutions. The CEO will also serve as the public representative of the organization.

In the initial year, the CEO will focus on the following priorities:

Stakeholder Alignment and Support:
  • Unify the board, staff, and stakeholders in developing and executing SME's vision and mission.
  • Lead the exploration of growth opportunities, including potential mergers and acquisitions.
  • Formulate a proactive strategic plan for SME and the SME Education Foundation.
Organizational Leadership:
  • Encourage collaboration across SME's divisions, ensuring a seamless experience for members and stakeholders.
  • Drive innovation; develop marketing strategies to attract and retain members; assess and enhance SME's value proposition.
  • Attract and develop talent for key senior roles.
  • Set the organizational tone and inspire employee performance through effective leadership.
Results-Oriented Execution:
  • Establish measurable metrics for short- and long-term goals related to strategy, budget, and staffing.
  • Evaluate strategies to manage and grow revenue streams, ensuring financial stability.
  • Translate strategic plans into operational objectives and milestones.
  • Engage in fundraising efforts to support the Education Foundation.
Relationship Building and Influence:
  • Act as the external spokesperson for SME, positioning the organization as a leading resource for the manufacturing sector.
  • Enhance SME's influence and membership experience.
  • Strengthen alliances and partnerships that advance SME's mission.
  • Develop relationships with stakeholders, including customers, industry leaders, and government officials.
Interpersonal Skills:
  • Implement strategies to enhance SME's visibility and relevance.
  • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders.
  • Maintain a productive relationship with the Board of Directors.
  • Exhibit leadership values and integrity, fostering an ethical organizational culture.
Qualifications
Ideal candidates will possess a blend of manufacturing expertise and leadership experience. A minimum of ten years in manufacturing leadership within a complex operational environment is required, along with a proven track record in strategic growth and collaboration. Candidates should demonstrate a team-oriented approach, a commitment to developing future manufacturing talent, and an understanding of key industry trends.

Education
A Bachelor's degree is required; an advanced degree in a relevant field is preferred.
