City of Schertz - Infrastructure Project Engineer

The City of Schertz is a vibrant community strategically positioned along the I-35 and I-10 corridors. Depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate, positions may be classified as Associate Engineer, Engineer (P.E.), or Senior Engineer (P.E.).

JOB OVERVIEW:

Under general oversight, this role involves conducting engineering plan reviews to ensure adherence to municipal regulations and policies, while also serving as the project manager for capital improvement initiatives (primarily concerning water, wastewater, streets, and drainage). This position may be filled at various levels: Associate Engineer, Engineer (P.E.), or Senior Engineer (P.E.).

Associate Engineer
Pay Grade 123: $60,652 - $88,031 Annual Salary, DOQ

Engineer (P.E.)
Pay Grade 131: $89,610 - $130,060 Annual Salary, DOQ

Senior Engineer (P.E.)
Pay Grade 133: $98,795 - $143,392 Annual Salary, DOQ

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Respond to inquiries related to the City's water, wastewater, drainage, and roadway systems.
• Provide information to the public regarding engineering requirements for subdivision and site development, utility services, and development regulations.
• Perform detailed engineering calculations.
• Assist in the creation and upkeep of standard construction details, technical specifications, and guidance documents.
• Review civil construction plans and specifications for compliance with municipal standards and best practices.
• Evaluate development applications, including plats and plans, ensuring they meet applicable codes and ordinances.
• Assess drainage reports, traffic impact analyses, and other necessary documentation for development applications.
• Analyze the capacity of the City's thoroughfare, drainage, water, and wastewater systems.
• Utilize software to prepare drawings, maps, and exhibits to provide technical guidance on projects.
• Oversee project progress from initial concept through construction and warranty phases.
• Prepare or assist in the preparation of cost estimates.
• Conduct field inspections of construction projects.
• Review and recommend approval of contractor payment requests.
• Collaborate with other divisions, departments, or agencies on projects.
• Conduct public meetings and engage in various public relations activities.
• Support the Transportation Safety Advisory Committee.
• Prepare and present information to the City Council and other organizations.
• Assist in the development, design, and management of capital improvement plans and construction projects.
• Perform related duties as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate Engineer:
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
• One year of engineering experience preferred.
• Engineer in Training (EIT) Certificate, or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
• Valid Texas Driver's License, or ability to obtain within six months of hire.

Engineer (P.E.):
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Four years of engineering experience required.
• Professional Engineer licensure in the State of Texas.
• Valid Texas Driver's License, or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
• Additional responsibilities include managing capital improvement projects, evaluating consultant proposals, and overseeing design and bid packages.

Senior Engineer (P.E.):
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Six years of Professional Engineering experience required.
• Professional Engineer licensure in the State of Texas.
• Valid Texas Driver's License, or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
• Responsibilities include managing projects, evaluating consultant proposals, and potentially mentoring junior staff.
