Caterpillar's Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) is a leading manufacturer of industrial engines and power systems. Our mission is to design, test, and manufacture high-quality engines that power a wide range of applications, from marine and petroleum to industrial and locomotive.

Role Definition

In this role, you will lead and/or support Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) projects and assignments that support and enhance Caterpillar's facility performance and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and mitigate common safety, health, and environmental hazards inherent in our operations and establish guidelines for protection from those hazards.
  • Ensure EHS training is completed to comply with regulatory requirements or in support of facility, division, or enterprise objectives.
  • Audit safety, health, and environmental programs for compliance with company standards, government regulations, and adequacy relative to local conditions.
  • Monitor periodic performance reports for trends and conditions and alert line management to problems.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of processes, tools, and techniques for assessing and controlling an organization's exposure to risks of various kinds.
  • Ability to produce and interpret common risk assessment and management reports.
  • Identify common technology, security, or financial risks relevant to own function or unit.
  • Implement or manage risk management for responsible element within the EHS function.
  • Evaluate risk assessment models and techniques relevant to a specific line of business.

Decision Making and Critical Thinking

  • Evaluate past decisions for insights to improve decision-making process.
  • Assess and validate decision options and points and predict their potential impact.
  • Advise others in analyzing and synthesizing relevant data and assessing alternatives.
  • Use effective decision-making approaches such as consultative, command, or consensus.
  • Ensure that assumptions and received wisdom are objectively analyzed in decisions.

Problem Solving

  • Identify and document specific problems and resolution alternatives.
  • Examine a specific problem and understand the perspective of each involved stakeholder.
  • Develop alternative techniques for assessing accuracy and relevance of information.
  • Help to analyze risks and benefits of alternative approaches and obtain decision on resolution.
  • Use fact-finding techniques and diagnostic tools to identify problems.

Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Policy Compliance

  • Determine criteria for assessing vendors which may have potential environmental impact.
  • Formulate health and safety plans and policies, e.g. a fire safety plan and road safety policy.
  • Train employees on HSE policy compliance and measure understanding.
  • Design an incident report form and reporting procedures for EHS management.
  • Collaborate across multiple departments to facilitate EHS management.
  • Control pollution and minimize waste of materials, energy, and water within the organization.
