Position Overview:

GoldenWolf is looking for a qualified Senior Fire Safety Engineer to provide dedicated, on-site assistance as part of the Defense Health Agency Headquarters' Engineering Operations team in San Antonio, TX. This position will require planning, directing, and managing fire safety system projects while ensuring adherence to all applicable codes and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate the Engineering Infrastructure team on all fire safety system-related issues in support of the MHS mission.
  • Utilize a variety of CAD/BIM and other software tools to create plans, specifications, hydraulic calculations, material lists, and other documentation for DHA/FE and DHA/FOB projects, ensuring compliance with state, local, and federal codes, AHJ requirements, Joint Commission, and DoD standards.
  • Conduct evaluations of building fire safety, codes, and life-safety measures, and prepare/present technical reports and presentations.
  • Perform functional testing and commissioning for government acceptance of systems through thorough verification of design, installation, functionality, and performance of fire safety equipment and systems.
  • Collaborate with project managers to facilitate facility modifications and projects, ensuring compliance with scope and specifications.
  • Assess proposed projects and technical solutions for necessity, code compliance, effectiveness, and life cycle cost.
  • Respond to technical Requests for Information (RFIs) in accordance with codes, regulations, and DHA policies and procedures.
  • Travel to various sites for detailed inspections of existing equipment conditions, evaluate maintenance procedures, and confirm adherence to operational practices.
  • Provide comprehensive travel reports detailing observations, findings, and recommendations in a clear and accessible manner for non-engineers.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or fire protection engineering.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) registration in Fire Protection is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the healthcare sector, with direct responsibility for the operation, maintenance, repair, and management of fire protection systems for large institutional, industrial, or healthcare campuses. This experience must be recent and continuous over the preceding three years.
  • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) Clearance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Expertise in all aspects of fire protection systems, including design, analysis, and management.
  • Strong understanding of local, municipal, and federal building codes, criteria, and standards.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, communicative, diplomatic, and analytical skills for delivering technically sound fire protection engineering strategies to project stakeholders.
  • Proven proficiency in computer-aided design software such as AutoCAD, Bluebeam, or Revit.
