What we offer:
The successful applicant will serve as the national expert in instrumentation and controls, supporting our national Operations and Maintenance (O&M) team. Our O&M team manages municipal and industrial wastewater and water treatment facilities across the country.

They often depend on our expertise to troubleshoot and resolve instrumentation and controls issues, including critical problems that must be addressed promptly to restore essential operations.

The ideal candidate will interact with a diverse range of personnel and must effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences.

The successful candidate must also possess technical knowledge of various control systems platforms and be open to frequent travel.

Responsibilities at Woodard & Curran include:

  • Troubleshooting and swiftly resolving PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), HMI (Human Machine Interfaces), alarming, and communication issues with SCADA systems at wastewater, water, and industrial facilities.
  • Working remotely or on-site as necessary;
  • Documenting all cases and resolution steps in our case management system;
  • Collaborating with plant staff to assess cases by understanding the severity and impact of issues on operations;
  • Conducting site visits of newly contracted facilities to perform SCADA assessments and develop upgrade proposals based on field observations;
  • Advising site managers on spare parts inventory;
  • Coordinating with the procurement team on equipment and software orders;
  • Advising key stakeholders on necessary upgrades to the SCADA system;
  • Working with the senior program leader on enhancements that benefit O&M operators and other staff.
  • Modifying PLC programming to resolve issues and change set points, as requested by plant personnel;
  • Updating HMI graphics as requested by plant personnel;
  • Using specialized software to create automated reports for regulatory purposes and for staff monitoring and evaluation;
  • Performing basic control panel and instrument wiring and troubleshooting;
  • Configuring and calibrating instruments, including level, pressure, flow, temperature, process analyzers, and other connections to the SCADA system;
  • Participating in small SCADA upgrade projects as needed;
  • Training operations personnel on the use, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of SCADA equipment and software.
  • Upholding safety as a priority and adhering to safety protocols;
  • Working independently while also collaborating with diverse teams;
  • Being willing to travel on short notice when necessary;
  • Demonstrating teamwork at all times;
  • Applying sound and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices;

Qualifications for success:

A BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field with 8+ years of experience in control system integration and service, or an AS in the aforementioned fields with 10+ years of experience.

Extensive experience with Allen-Bradley and/or other PLC hardware and software;

Extensive experience with Allen-Bradley FactoryTalk, Aveva Wonderware, Ignition, VTScada, GE Proficy iFix; extensive experience with Allen-Bradley and GE HMI software (other HMI software experience is a plus);

Experience configuring and developing graphics for OITs such as Allen-Bradley PanelView and Automation Direct C-More;

Experience with automated reporting software (such as SyTech's XLReporter);

Experience with alarm dialing software (such as WIN-911 and TopView);

Hands-on experience configuring, interfacing with, and troubleshooting instrumentation found in the water and wastewater industry;

Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude;

Experience with Microsoft Office suite (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint);

Experience with databases (SQL and historian databases);

Computer networking experience (hardware and configuration) is a bonus;

Experience in higher programming languages (VB, C++, Java) is a bonus;

Experience in the water/wastewater industry is a bonus.

Compensation: $110,000 - $130,000 annually. This position's anticipated pay range is provided above; final exempt salary or non-exempt hourly pay will depend on experience level and considering a percentage-based geographic differential based on where the final candidate will be working. Geographic differentials recognize and reflect the cost of labor differences between geographic markets.
