Your Role:
The selected candidate will serve as the national expert in instrumentation and controls, supporting our Operations and Maintenance (O&M) team across the country. This team is responsible for the operation of municipal and industrial wastewater and water treatment facilities. You will be relied upon to troubleshoot and resolve critical instrumentation and controls issues that may arise, ensuring the continuity of essential operations. The ideal candidate will need to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical personnel and possess technical expertise across various control systems platforms. Frequent travel will be required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and swiftly address PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), HMI (Human Machine Interface), alarming, and communication challenges with SCADA systems at wastewater, water, and industrial facilities, utilizing remote access or on-site visits as necessary.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of all cases and resolution processes in our case management system.
  • Collaborate with plant personnel to assess the urgency and impact of issues on operations.
  • Conduct site evaluations of newly contracted facilities to perform SCADA assessments and propose upgrades based on field observations.
  • Provide guidance to site managers regarding spare parts inventory.
  • Work with the procurement team on equipment and software orders.
  • Advise stakeholders on essential upgrades to the SCADA system.
  • Partner with senior program leaders on enhancements that benefit O&M operators and other staff.
  • Adjust PLC programming to resolve issues and modify set points as requested by plant staff.
  • Update HMI graphics and OIT (Operator Interface Terminal) graphics as needed.
  • Utilize specialized software to generate automated reports for regulatory compliance and operational monitoring.
  • Perform basic control panel and instrument wiring and troubleshooting.
  • Configure and calibrate instruments, including level, pressure, flow, temperature, and process analyzers, ensuring proper connections to the SCADA system.
  • Participate in small SCADA upgrade projects as required.
  • Train operations personnel on the use, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of SCADA equipment and software.
  • Prioritize safety and adhere to safety protocols at all times.
  • Work independently while also collaborating with diverse teams.
  • Be prepared to travel on short notice when necessary.
  • Exhibit strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Apply a broad knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Be self-motivated and proactive in your approach.
  • Feel comfortable asking questions to enhance understanding.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field with a minimum of 8 years of experience in control system integration and service, or an Associate's degree with at least 10 years of experience.
  • Proven experience with Allen-Bradley and/or other PLC hardware and software.
  • Extensive knowledge of Allen-Bradley FactoryTalk, Aveva Wonderware, Ignition, VTScada, and GE Proficy iFix.
  • Experience in configuring and developing graphics for OITs such as Allen-Bradley PanelView and Automation Direct C-More.
  • Familiarity with automated reporting software (e.g., SyTech's XLReporter) and alarm dialing software (e.g., WIN-911 and TopView).
  • Hands-on experience with instrumentation in the water and wastewater sector.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with databases (SQL and historian databases).
  • Networking experience (hardware and configuration) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with higher programming languages (VB, C++, Java) is advantageous.
  • Experience in the water/wastewater industry is a plus.

Compensation:
The anticipated salary range for this position is between $110,000 and $130,000 per year, depending on experience and geographic considerations.
