Position Summary:

The Production Operations Leader will be responsible for managing the personnel and processes involved in the fabrication of precision machined aerospace components under contract manufacturing. This role is committed to upholding the highest standards of safety, quality assurance, and customer satisfaction while embodying the core values of HORST Engineering & Manufacturing Co. The focus will be on workforce development, process optimization to minimize waste, and fostering innovative solutions to overcome operational challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily operations of the workforce engaged in CNC Swiss screw machining, turning, milling, thread rolling, and grinding, along with secondary operations such as deburring, cleaning, part marking, and material handling.
  • Facilitate workforce development through strategic headcount planning, recruitment, training, coaching, and mentoring. Utilize tools like training matrices, development plans, performance management, and career tracking to enhance workforce engagement and growth. Address employee concerns as needed.
  • Monitor productivity metrics including setup time, production run-time efficiencies, WIP velocity, and first pass yield through the ERP system to drive performance improvement initiatives.
  • Create schedules and capacity plans that maximize resource utilization—manpower, equipment, and materials—to achieve operational objectives. Manage visual management and ERP systems for effective job planning.
  • Encourage innovation and process improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing employee satisfaction, productivity, and waste reduction. Implement lean principles, 5S methodologies, and visual management systems to optimize workflow and work standards.
  • Ensure the safety of the workforce through comprehensive protocols and training programs.
  • Implement quality assurance and compliance policies in alignment with customer and industry standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical or industrial discipline such as engineering, manufacturing science, mathematics, or business; an Operations Management concentration is advantageous. Progressive career growth and relevant training/certifications will also be considered.
  • Proven experience in leading manufacturing operations, particularly in environments utilizing CNC machining work centers. Experience in contract manufacturing with a high mix, low volume focus is preferred.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices is desirable.
  • Strong passion for team building, workforce motivation, education, and problem resolution, with a focus on driving team performance and results.
  • Ability to connect production metrics with business objectives, fostering awareness among employees and empowering them to achieve goals.
  • High proficiency in measuring and monitoring performance metrics on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. Regular interaction with ERP/MRP systems for production monitoring, job order status, performance tracking, data collection, and decision-making is essential.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify operational inefficiencies, with a drive to discover better solutions and project management capabilities to implement those solutions.
