As the Manufacturing Operations Manager at HORST ENGINEERING & MANUFACTURING CO, you will oversee the workforce and processes involved in the production of precision machined aerospace components for contract manufacturing.


Your role will prioritize the highest standards of safety, quality compliance, and customer satisfaction, embodying the core values of HORST by leading through example and driving operational excellence.


Key responsibilities will include workforce development, process optimization to eliminate waste, and a commitment to introducing innovative solutions to overcome growth challenges.


Primary Responsibilities:


Manage and direct the daily operations of a team engaged in CNC Swiss screw machining, turning, milling, thread rolling, and grinding, along with related secondary operations such as deburring, cleaning, part marking, and material handling.


Facilitate workforce development through strategic headcount planning, recruitment, training, coaching, and mentoring initiatives.


Utilize tools like training matrices, development plans, performance management, and career tracking to foster engagement and growth within the team. Address employee concerns as needed.


Monitor productivity metrics, including setup time, production run-time efficiencies, WIP velocity, and first-pass yield through the ERP system to support performance improvement initiatives.


Develop schedules and capacity plans that optimize resource utilization, encompassing manpower, equipment, and materials to achieve operational objectives.


Oversee visual management and ERP systems for effective job planning.


Encourage innovation and initiatives aimed at process enhancements, employee satisfaction, productivity improvements, and waste reduction. Implement lean principles, 5S methodologies, and visual management systems to ensure optimal job flow and work standards.


Proactively maintain the safety of the workforce through comprehensive protocols and training.


Ensure adherence to quality and compliance standards in line with customer and industry regulations.



Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a technical or industrial discipline such as engineering, manufacturing science, mathematics, or business.

Operation Management concentration is advantageous.

Demonstrated career progression, with relevant training and certifications considered.

Proven experience in leading manufacturing operations, particularly with teams operating CNC machining work centers.

Previous experience in contract manufacturing within a high mix, low volume environment is preferred.

Knowledge of lean and continuous improvement practices is desirable.

A passion for team building, workforce motivation, education, and problem resolution, with a focus on driving team-based performance and results.

Ability to connect production metrics to business objectives, fostering employee awareness and empowering goal attainment.

Strong comfort level with measuring and monitoring performance metrics on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.

Frequent interaction with ERP/MRP systems for production monitoring, job order status tracking, performance evaluation, data collection, and decision-making is essential.

Strong analytical skills to identify operational inefficiencies, a drive for improvement, and project management capabilities to implement solutions.
