The Production Supervisor leads a multi-department team of CNC Operators and Set-Up Operators, in a high mix / low volume aerospace component manufacturing environment. This role is expected to balance expertise in machining for precision tolerance components, along with strong interpersonal skills to motivate the team to work toward common goals and objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day priorities for multiple manufacturing departments, ensuring efficient operations and meeting production goals.
- Cross-train staff on best practices to meet set-up and production run-times, optimize processes through the elimination of waste, and lead lean continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop and author standard work for the operation of production equipment, coach and train teammates in best practices, enforcing safety, departmental and QMS policies.
- Motivate team to meet daily, weekly and monthly goals and objectives, identify waste and non-value-added tasks that interfere with objectives.
- Coordinate time-off requests, ensuring adequate staffing level across all disciplines of machine centers to meet production needs.
- Routinely measure, monitor, and publish the performance of all individuals on the team, compare results against department standards, complete periodic performance evaluations, and correct any issues in real time as needed.
- Host daily GEMBA walks and serve as the primary conduit for all communications between operator and cross-functional teams, attend production meetings, and quality clinic/MRB meetings as needed.
- Partner with production control to stage daily and weekly priorities, ensure jobs are completed on time, and productivity is sustained, expedite jobs as necessary, maintain ERP data integrity.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 10 years progressive career in the manufacturing of precision machined components in a regulated industry such as aerospace or medical.
- Experience leading and managing a small team toward common goals, effective communication skills to build rapport with a diverse team.
- A willingness to take accountability for self and team, driving and inheriting the collective results of a department or team.
- High degree of urgency to drive operations at full speed, keen sense of attention to detail to understand how to work with pace, not haste, avoiding careless mistakes.
- Strong understanding of operational metrics such as first pass yield, efficiency, WIP aging, on-time-delivery, job cost, scrap rate, etc.
- Strong computer skills especially related to navigating ERP systems, job clocking systems, CAD/CAM software, and Microsoft products such as Outlooks, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
