Senior Vice President, Inland Marine Operations

Vice President – Seneca Inland Marine
We are seeking a proactive leader with extensive experience in Inland Marine underwriting and operations, coupled with a solid understanding of how actuarial and claims processes contribute to the profitability of an insurance division.
This position entails overseeing a national team of Inland Marine underwriters, managing account referrals, engaging with key producers, enhancing profitability, and serving as a primary contact for conflict resolution.
The ideal candidate will possess strong underwriting expertise and exceptional relationship management abilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a strategic business plan in partnership with senior management to achieve profitable growth aligned with the company’s overarching strategy.
- Proactively oversee and evaluate performance metrics to meet established objectives.
- Lead and mentor a team of underwriters, fostering their professional development.
- Oversee the performance management process for this profit center.
- Manage the referral process, assessing risks within authority and escalating those outside of authority to senior management as necessary.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with producers.
- Identify and capitalize on new business opportunities within the scope of responsibilities.
Lines of Business:
Inland Marine and related property lines. The candidate should have a comprehensive understanding of company products and services and be able to clearly communicate Seneca's value proposition and underwriting appetite.
Participation in training and initiatives to enhance knowledge is expected, along with potential involvement in special projects. Travel may be required up to 33% of the time.
Qualifications:
- A self-motivated individual with strong leadership capabilities.
- At least 15 years of professional experience within the insurance sector, both internally and externally.
- Extensive background in Inland Marine underwriting.
- Established relationships with national brokers in Inland Marine and Property lines.
- A seasoned underwriter with a proven track record in the marketplace and internal collaboration with actuarial, claims, and operations teams.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in customer service and relationship-building.
- A collaborative team player with a strong drive for success.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to cultivate new business relationships.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- A college degree or equivalent, preferably in risk management, engineering, or a related field.
- CPCU and/or other relevant insurance designations are highly desirable.
