Position Overview:

The Senior Inland Marine Underwriter will be responsible for evaluating and analyzing underwriting data to cultivate and sustain a profitable portfolio within the Seneca division, working with minimal supervision.

This role involves managing agency relationships through ongoing customer service and marketing efforts. The successful candidate will act as a technical authority in underwriting practices and specific industry knowledge, potentially mentoring junior underwriters to enhance organizational value. Collaboration with colleagues is essential to meet departmental objectives.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Achieve profitability, retention, and written premium targets set by the department.
  • Make independent decisions within the underwriting authority and ensure proper documentation is maintained.
  • Assist in formulating annual business objectives for assigned agents/producers, analyzing outcomes, and holding agency partners accountable.
  • Stay informed about market trends and identify potential risks to the department.
  • Possess comprehensive knowledge of department products and services, including both admitted and non-admitted business.
  • Effectively communicate the department's value proposition.
  • Engage in training and initiatives, and may participate in special projects.
  • Travel may be required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • A minimum of six years of experience in property & casualty underwriting, with a preference for commercial Inland Marine expertise.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills to pursue new business opportunities and manage a significant renewal portfolio.
  • Proficiency in the MS Office suite.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Relevant underwriting and industry designations are preferred.
  • Established relationships within the wholesale and retail community in the Midwest are highly desirable.
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent, along with CRIS, AMIM, or CPCU designations is preferred.
  • Adherence to departmental policies and procedures, including risk management controls, is essential.
