Position: Family Support Specialist

Compensation: $24.72 per hour

Employment Type: Non-exempt, Full-time, 35 hours per week

Supervisor: Program Coordinator, Associate Director of Family Support Services

Role Summary:

The Family Support Specialist plays a crucial role in enhancing family dynamics through weekly home visits, leading parenting support groups, and providing necessary transportation for families to access services. This position also involves assisting with childcare and collaborating with Family Educators to fulfill client and program objectives. The specialist will engage with families referred by the Department of Social Services, offering case management and supportive counseling to empower them in their journey towards stability.

Key Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of child and family dynamics, particularly in early childhood development.
  • Preferred experience in Child Welfare or a related sector.
  • Must possess a reliable vehicle and a valid driver's license.
  • A Bachelor's degree in social work or a related discipline is required.
  • Bilingual candidates in English and Spanish are highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with community resources is beneficial (training will be provided).
  • Flexibility in working hours is essential.
  • Ability to work in various environments and travel as needed.
  • Capability to adapt to changing client needs, including diverse home conditions and mental health considerations.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills are essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Educating and supporting families in developing effective parenting skills through home visits and group sessions.
  • Providing transportation and childcare support for families as necessary.
  • Maintaining a flexible schedule to accommodate client needs, including early morning or evening visits.
  • Documenting visit records and reports accurately and promptly.
  • Collaborating with various agencies to ensure families receive the necessary services.
  • Engaging with individuals from diverse backgrounds with respect and understanding.
  • Demonstrating strong teaching and coaching abilities to meet family needs effectively.
  • Exhibiting nurturing behaviors in all interactions with program participants.
  • Delivering exceptional customer service to all families.
  • Employing creative problem-solving skills and resourcefulness.
  • Managing responsibilities independently while communicating effectively with supervisors.
  • Participating in required meetings and training sessions.
  • Completing assigned administrative and client-facing tasks as directed.

Work Environment:

The Family Support Specialist primarily conducts home visits, provides transportation, and advocates for families to promote self-sufficiency. Training on program curriculum will be offered to equip specialists with the necessary skills to effectively engage with families.
