About the Role

The Reliability Engineering Technician will be responsible for supporting the Systems Engineering group at Variscale Services and Engineering, Inc. on several projects in various stages of development. The technician must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision to maintain project schedules and deadlines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build, debug, test, repair, and upgrade computer prototypes, including computers, servers, peripherals, programs, and software/firmware.
  • Assist engineers in the evaluation of new electronic components.
  • Document prototype construction and maintain pertinent engineering records.
  • Comprehend and follow procedures and various technical documents.
  • Perform lab management responsibilities to maintain and organize a clean and efficient lab.
  • Manage materials inventory, tracking, and shipping.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Fundamental understanding of computer architecture and components, including CPU, power supply, memory, graphics cards, flash memory, etc.
  • Knowledge of circuit boards, soldering, and electronics.
  • Ability to diagnose the root cause of computer system failure and isolate the components/failure nodes.
  • Ability to use custom Linux and Windows-based diagnostic/test programs to run benchmarks/tests on electronic components' performance.
  • Understanding of hardware and software interactions; able to apply this understanding to resolve issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with people at various levels in the organization.
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving ability; use rigorous logic to solve problems.
  • The ability to lift up to 50 pounds when necessary.
  • The ability to climb ladders when needed.
  • The ability to wear personal protective gear correctly when necessary.
  • The ability to stand and walk throughout the facility for extended periods without loss or reduction of productivity.
  • The ability to use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls; make quick, precise adjustments to machine controls; bend or twist body; and repeat movements for extended periods without loss or reduction of productivity.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in Electronics, Certificate of Completion of Technical School, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Proficient in hand soldering.
  • Understanding in Reliability testing (Thermal, EMI/EMC, and/or Shock & Vibe).
  • 2+ years of engineering test, debug, tech support, or relevant experience. Experience within a computer hardware environment preferred.
