Position Summary:

The Security Department's primary mission is to maintain the safety and security of guests and employees, protect assets, and oversee the property. Security personnel are tasked with responsibilities throughout the Red Mile premises, covering all levels and areas within the facility as well as the surrounding campus as required. It is important to note that Red Mile Security personnel do not engage in the use of force or law enforcement activities.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of prior experience in security or a related field.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Desirable:

  • One (1) year of supervisory experience in a security role.
  • Associate's Degree or equivalent educational experience from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in law enforcement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess personnel needs, plan and oversee on-the-job training, and continuously evaluate staff for alertness, appearance, and performance.
  • Respond to all requests for assistance and emergencies on the property, reporting significant issues to the Security Director and informing department heads as necessary.
  • Investigate complaints from guests and staff, coordinating with Surveillance on incidents captured on video.
  • Prepare and submit both written and verbal reports as required.
  • Engage with emergency services and other external resources as needed to manage incidents effectively.
  • Ensure that Red Mile equipment and assets are maintained in operational readiness, reporting any repair needs to the Security Director.
  • Provide coaching, counseling, and disciplinary actions within established guidelines.
  • Possess the ability to obtain and maintain a Kentucky Horse Racing Commission license.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and a passion for fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Proficient in English; bilingual in Spanish is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver friendly, courteous, and prompt customer service.
  • Willingness to work cooperatively with other team members.

Physical Requirements:

The role requires the ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 lbs. Employees must be able to sit for extended periods and occasionally stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, as well as talk and hear. The position involves significant walking and standing, with exposure to varying temperatures as staff move between indoor and outdoor environments throughout different seasons.
