Position Summary:

The Security Department's primary mission is to uphold the physical security and safety of both patrons and employees, protect assets, and maintain the integrity of the property. Security personnel are tasked with responsibilities throughout the Red Mile premises, including all levels and areas within the facility, as well as the surrounding campus as necessary. It is important to note that Red Mile Security personnel do not employ force to fulfill their duties and do not engage in law enforcement activities.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of prior experience in Security or a related field.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Desirable:

  • One (1) year of supervisory experience in Security.
  • Associate's Degree or equivalent educational background from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in Law Enforcement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess personnel needs, plan and oversee on-the-job training, and continuously evaluate staff for attentiveness, appearance, and performance.
  • Respond to all requests for assistance and emergencies on campus, both internal and external, and report concerns to the Security Director while keeping department heads informed as necessary.
  • Investigate complaints from guests and employees, collaborating with Surveillance on matters captured by video.
  • Prepare and submit comprehensive written and verbal reports.
  • Engage with emergency services and other external resources as required to manage incidents effectively.
  • Ensure that Red Mile equipment and assets are operationally ready, reporting any repair needs to the Security Director.
  • Provide coaching, counseling, and disciplinary actions within established guidelines.
  • Possess the ability to obtain and maintain a Kentucky Horse Racing Commission license.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to fostering a team-oriented environment.
  • Proficient in English; bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
  • Willingness to deliver friendly, courteous, and prompt customer service.
  • Able to collaborate effectively with other team members.

Physical Requirements:

The role requires the ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 lbs. While performing job duties, the employee must be able to sit for extended periods, as well as stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and communicate effectively. The position involves considerable walking and standing, with exposure to varying temperatures as the employee may transition between indoor and outdoor environments throughout different seasons.
